The Trust Waikato Waihi Beach Lifeguard Service (Inc.) will be hosting a live-in Surf Lifeguard Training Camp at the Service Headquarters, northern end of Waihi Beach.
Date: Report 7pm Sat 26 Sep 09 at the Waihi Beach Surf Club. Finish 4pm 29 Sep 09.
Age: Must be 14 years old on/ before date of camp (Those close to the date will also be considered).
Cost: $120 - Includes: membership fee @ $60, exam fee @ $30, training manual @ $10, breakfast, lunch and dinner, & accommodation
Gear: Bring with you: snack food if you so desire; sleeping bag; pillow; suitable clothes for 4days; pen; togs; towels and wetsuit; surf fins (we encourage all surf lifeguards to buy their own pair)
Pre-requisite: MUST be able to swim 400m in a pool in under 9mins before attending camp
During the course of the training camp, you will be taught the necessary skills to become a rookie Surf Lifeguard. Our instructors will provide tuition in 5 broad areas: Risk Management, Physical Environment, Proactive Surf Life Saving, Emergency Response and Emergency Care. You will then be tested in a pool component, a theory component and, a practical component all at later dates.
The course is restricted to 20 applicants and will be taken on a first in, first served basis.
N.B Pool times will be tested prior to the course by arrangement with one of the persons listed below.
